Fresh Graduates in Malad: 10 Creative Roles Worth Targeting
A practical guide to the 10 creative jobs Malad freshers can realistically target this year, with skills, salary bands and where to start.
If you have just finished college in Malad and your portfolio is still half-formed, the question is rarely whether creative work exists nearby — it is which role to chase first. Malad and the wider Mumbai western belt run on studios, agencies and post-production houses that hire entry-level talent every quarter. This guide lists the ten most realistic creative jobs Malad freshers should target right now, what each one pays, and the skills that actually get you shortlisted.
Why Malad is a strong base for fresher creative roles
Malad sits on a useful stretch of the western line. Infinity Mall, Mindspace and Inorbit feed a cluster of media studios, gaming companies and ad agencies. A short train ride takes you to Andheri's post-production belt, while Borivali, Kandivali and Mira Road send a steady stream of junior designers, animators and editors into the same hiring pool every season.
For a fresher, that geography matters. It means you do not need to relocate to land your first job — Malad design jobs and the surrounding Mumbai market are reachable from anywhere between Bhayandar and Bandra. What you do need is a sharp portfolio, one or two niche skills, and a clear sense of which doors to knock on first.
The 10 creative jobs Malad freshers should target
Below is a shortlist built around what local studios and agencies actually hire for at the junior level. Salary bands assume a strong portfolio and one internship or live project on your CV.
- Junior Motion Graphics Artist — ₹3–5 LPA
- Junior 2D Animator — ₹3–5 LPA
- Video Editor (Social and YouTube) — ₹3–5 LPA
- Junior UI/UX Designer — ₹4–6 LPA
- Graphic Designer (Agency or In-House) — ₹3–5 LPA
- Performance Marketing Executive — ₹4–6 LPA
- Content and Social Media Designer — ₹3–5 LPA
- Junior VFX Compositor or Roto Artist — ₹3–5 LPA
- Web Designer / Front-End Designer — ₹4–6 LPA
- Game Art Trainee (2D / 3D) — ₹3–5 LPA
These ranges hold for a first job at a Mumbai studio or agency. Specialists who go deep — say, a motion designer who masters After Effects expressions, or a UI designer who ships a real product — start crossing ₹6–8 LPA inside two to three years.
Roles broken down: what each job actually looks like
Motion graphics, animation and video
If you enjoy timing, sound and storytelling, the motion side of the industry is the easiest entry point in Mumbai right now. Brands need short-form video every single week, and studios cannot hire fast enough.
- Junior Motion Graphics Artist — You will build social cuts, explainer animations and broadcast graphics. Tools: After Effects, Illustrator, basic Cinema 4D or Blender.
- Junior 2D Animator — Character animation, lip sync, frame-by-frame work for ad films and shorts. Toon Boom Harmony or Adobe Animate is the standard.
- Video Editor — Long-form and short-form cuts for YouTube channels, OTT promos and brand pages. Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve are non-negotiable.
For any of these, your reel matters more than your marksheet. Three strong pieces will outperform a ten-piece portfolio of average work.
Design: UI, graphic and web
Design jobs are the most visible part of the Malad design jobs market because every agency, startup and D2C brand needs them.
- Junior UI/UX Designer — Wireframes, prototypes and visual design for apps and websites. Figma is the industry default. A case study showing your thinking — not just screens — is what gets you past the first round.
- Graphic Designer — Brand collateral, packaging, social creatives. You need to be quick in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, and comfortable taking feedback.
- Web Designer / Front-End Designer — A hybrid role that bridges design and code. Figma plus working knowledge of HTML, CSS and a little JavaScript opens up startups and product companies across Mumbai.
VFX, gaming and emerging tech
The post-production cluster around Andheri and Goregaon still pulls junior talent from Malad, Goregaon and Mira Road every month. These roles are competitive but pay well once you cross the first two years.
- Junior VFX Compositor / Roto Artist — Entry into film and OTT pipelines. Nuke is the gold standard; many studios also use After Effects for finishing.
- Game Art Trainee — 2D or 3D art for mobile, casual and indie game studios. Photoshop, Maya or Blender, and a working knowledge of Unity or Unreal will set you apart.
Marketing-led creative roles
Some of the strongest fresher creative roles in 2026 are not pure design jobs at all — they sit at the intersection of creative and marketing.
- Performance Marketing Executive — You will run paid campaigns on Meta and Google, write ad copy and brief designers. Strong portfolios in this space include real campaign screenshots, CPL numbers and learnings.
- Content and Social Media Designer — A blended role: part designer, part content strategist. Brands love freshers who can shoot a reel, edit it and design the carousel that supports it.
If marketing-led creative work appeals to you, the Digital Marketing programme at Storyboard is built specifically for this hybrid skillset — paid ads, SEO, social, copy and creative production under one roof.
How to actually land the first one
The roles above are real. The hard part is the gap between knowing they exist and getting shortlisted. Here is what separates freshers who get interviews from those who do not.
- Pick two tools and go deep. A motion artist who knows After Effects cold will beat one who has dabbled in five tools.
- Build three portfolio pieces around a niche. Food brands, fintech apps, esports — anything that gives a recruiter a clear category to slot you into.
- Treat your portfolio site like your CV. Hosted on a clean domain, fast to load, mobile-friendly. Web designers especially are judged on this before anyone reads their resume.
- Apply to small studios first. A three-month stint at a 15-person studio in Goregaon teaches you more than six months at a giant agency where you only touch one slide deck.
- Use Mumbai geography as leverage. Mention in your cover note that you can be on-site daily. From Malad, Mira Road or Borivali, that is a real advantage over candidates commuting from further east.
A six-step plan that works for most freshers:
- Choose one of the ten roles above based on what you genuinely enjoy.
- Identify the two or three tools that role demands.
- Spend 60–90 days building three portfolio pieces in that niche.
- Publish them on a personal site and on Behance or Dribbble.
- Apply to 30–40 studios and agencies in the Malad–Andheri–Goregaon belt.
- Take the first reasonable offer, learn fast, and move up in 18 months.
